Pennsylvania fatal accident: Driver had multiple prior arrests

Automobile accidents are tragic occurrences for the victims involved and their families, and when a loved one is severely injured or killed on the roadways, there is little that can be said or done to alleviate the pain that results. However, there are some accidents that are so egregious in nature that they add a layer of outrage and anger that makes grief even more difficult to manage. A fatal accident in Pike County has left many Pennsylvania residents wondering if the justice system has seriously failed.

On the weekend of July 14, a 20-year-old woman was running along the side of a Pike County road when she was struck and killed by a pickup truck. The young woman was the valedictorian of her class at Paramus High School, and was also a successful collegiate athlete. The man who was driving the truck that hit and killed her had already had two run-ins with the law this month.

The 48-year-old Dover man was arrested on July 2 after he allegedly swung an ax at another customer's car in a drive through window at a local McDonald's when employees refused to give him free food. He was again taken into police custody on July 7 for allegedly stealing the front end of a tractor-trailer truck. He is believed to have stolen the truck, washed it, then abandoned it at a nearby residence.

He was arrested in connection with the car crash, although there is no word of what charges he will face as a result of the fatal accident. For the family of the young Pennsylvania woman who was killed, there may never be a completely satisfactory answer for the loss of her life. As this case makes its way through the courts, there may be questions raised as to why this individual was in a position to cause such a horrific accident, given his apparent troubles with the law in the two weeks prior to the accident.
