Teens seriously injured in 4-wheeler collision

Accidents involving recreational vehicles such as ATVs and snowmobiles may require careful investigation to determine exactly what caused a collision. Sometimes these vehicles have defective parts; other times, dangerous premises factor into why a vehicle flipped. When juveniles are injured in a recreational vehicle accident, it is important to determine whether the kids were properly supervised.

Recently, two teenagers were seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident that led to the boys being airlifted from the scene. The accident happened in Indiana, but such a collision could very well have occurred in Pennsylvania.

According to a report, three high school students were driving ATVs on a private driveway when one of the boys announced that he was heading home. The other two teens, who are cousins, waited a short time and then started up the driveway in the same direction as the other boy.

As the cousins ascended a hill, the third boy suddenly came from the opposite direction and collided head-on with one of the cousins. The two boys in the crash reportedly were not wearing helmets. The teens suffered serious injuries, and the third boy called for help.

Two helicopters responded to the scene and took the injured teens to separate hospitals.

Authorities reportedly took the ATVs from the scene to inspect them for possible mechanical defects such as faulty brakes or lights.

Pennsylvania residents don't have to look far to find similar accidents in their own communities. The injuries suffered in recreational vehicle wrecks can result in lifelong disability, and families should be aware of the possible legal avenues for pursuing compensation for damages.
