Fatal accident involving teen takes place in Pennsylvania

One teenager recently died in a Pennsylvania vehicle crash. Police said that both alcohol and speed appeared to be causal factors in this fatal accident. The surviving family members naturally may struggle to accept that their loved one has died and will surely want to know exactly what happened.

The incident happened on a recent Sunday morning, just after midnight. A boy who is 17 years old was operating his pickup truck and was trying to navigate a curve, police said. All of a sudden, the truck left the roadway.

The driver ended up being thrown from the vehicle. The two passengers were unfortunately trapped inside the truck. The motorist and one of the passengers, said to be 18, suffered injuries and were transported to a medical center via helicopter. The second passenger, said to be 16, died as a result of the crash.

The family members of the passenger who died may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the driver. If the driver is charged with operating the vehicle while intoxicated, proof of any conviction secured may be offered as evidence in a related civil court proceeding with the goal of establishing the driver’s liability in the fatal accident. Speeding may also be considered driver negligence. If the court finds that the driver is financially responsible for the death caused by the accident, the judge in Pennsylvania will determine claims for monetary damages in favor of the deceased victim’s surviving family members. Even though financial restitution can’t restore the life of a loved one who has passed away, it can help the family members as they struggle to move on from the painful event.
