What should I do after I've been injured?

The aftermath of an accident can be physically painful as well as emotionally exhausting, and victims may find themselves both overwhelmed and a little frightened. There are often injuries that require medical treatment, time off work, follow-up appointments and dealings with insurance companies. It can be difficult to think about preparing for a personal injury lawsuit in these times but taking a few steps along the way can make the litigation process smoother.

As soon as you are physically able, talking with a personal injury attorney who has experience in dealing with recreational accidents in Pennsylvania is critical. An attorney will ask you to describe anything you remember about the accident, as well as the time before and after. You should try to gather as much information as possible about the event to help you determine if a personal injury suit is an option.

The next important step is documentation. Even before you talk to an attorney, writing down everything possible about the accident, including who you talked to, what they said and when they said it can be critical for establishing a timeline and providing your attorney a point for further investigation. It's easiest to keep copies of all important bills, records and notes in a folder that you can take with you to all your appointments and backup a copy electronically as well.

While it can seem difficult to take those first steps toward pursuing a personal injury claim against an at-fault party, taking action and putting things in motion can also help some victims find closure and feel like they are taking back control of their lives.
