Team sports can push teens to injury in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania and all across the United States, people love team sports. Kids grow up playing them, adults watch them every weekend, and they're the highlight of the week in many small towns. They're a huge part of American culture and being on a team is incredibly important to a lot of teens.

However, it may be almost too important to some teens. Take the story of a high school field-hockey player who got hit in the head so hard that she was knocked out. She said afterwards that she didn't think about her safety at all; she just wanted to get out there and help her team. She wanted to get back on the field.

The idea of an injury was second to her. All that mattered was playing the game.

For some teens, this can be a serious issue. Teams teach them valuable things about dedication, fighting through adversity and putting it all on the line to help their teammates. When that means that they are ignoring serious issues, though, it could put them in danger.

This is not just a teen issue, of course. A quick look at the concussion issues in the National Football League over the years shows that adults often have the same mindset. Despite the severity of a concussion, professional athletes may feel like they are letting everyone down if they don't get back on the field at all costs. It is partly about competitive drive, but it is also about the basic team mentality going too far.

If you have been hurt while playing sports, make sure that you know what legal options you have, especially if there are lingering issues. Please check out our page in sports injuries today.
