2 pedestrian women struck by drunk driver -- 1 killed

It is an unfortunate fact that tragedies occur on the roadways across the nation on a daily basis. In some cases, numerous people are killed or injured due to the negligence of one driver. Whether it is due to a negligent, distracted or intoxicated driver, these behaviors create many dangers for other drivers, bikers and pedestrians near or on the road. Moreover, a fatal incident caused by a negligent driver could lead to civil and criminal liabilities for the driver at fault.

A fatal hit-and-run recently occurred in Lehigh County, and Pennsylvania authorities were dispatched to the scene of the incident on Airport Road. According to preliminary reports, two women were walking on the eastern shoulder of Airport Road near Airport Center Road when a silver Saab struck both of them. Officers reported that the force of the collision so intense that when the car collided with one of the women, it severed her at the waist. The other pedestrian woman was struck and suffered several injuries.

The driver that struck the women did not stop following the collision, and authorities located a car matching the description of the vehicle that hit these women shortly after the incident. The driver of the vehicle did not know that he had hit anyone and claims that he would have stopped if he did. Police claim that the man smelt of alcohol.

Upon further investigation of the vehicle with extensive frontal damage and missing parts, authorities discovered missing body parts belonging to one of the woman involved in the crash. The driver was arrested and was charged with one felony count of accidents involving death or personal injury and one misdemeanor count of the same offense. The investigation is still ongoing and the driver could face additional charges.

Following a fatal collision like this incident, injured parties and the loved ones of the deceased should understand that they have legal rights and options such as a civil suit. Filing a wrongful death claim or a personal injury claim could help these parties recover compensation for losses and damages.

Dealing with the tragic death of a loved one is a difficult event to process and cope with. Family members should be aware that they have options, and obtaining legal guidance about their next steps could help ensure they take timely and appropriate measures to protect their rights and interests.
