Harrison Ford's airplane crash was not his fault

"Indiana Jones" actor Harrison Ford was not at fault for the plane crash that left him with cuts and bruises, a broken ankle and broken pelvis last week. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the mechanical condition of his World War II plane was to blame. Whether a mechanic or airplane part manufacturer will be deemed liable for the mechanical problems remains to be seen.

Last Thursday, Ford had to crash land his ST-3KR plane on the fairway of a golf course shortly after taking off in Los Angeles. The plane clipped a tree before digging a groove into the golf course grass. The 72-year-old actor was lucky to survive the incident, and doctors say he will have a complete medical recovery.

It is unknown if the same can be said for the mechanical condition of his 72-year-old aircraft. The engine of the plane failed just after the actor took off from the Santa Monica Airport. Nevertheless, exact details of the cause of the engine failure have not been revealed.

It is vital to determine the cause of an airplane accident in order to evaluate who is at fault and liable for the crash. In the case that a Pennsylvania resident is lucky enough to survive an airplane crash, medical treatment and associated rehabilitative services could be costly. Such victims may be able to seek damages in court relating to their injuries, which is why it is so important to identify the liable party or parties. Similarly, family members who lose a loved one in a fatal aviation crash could be able to seek to wrongful death-related damages under the law.
