Recall notices and consumer injuries from dangerous products

People in Pennsylvania should be aware of defective consumer products and any recall notices that are issued for such products. In order to avoid injury, harm or even death to consumers, these recalls seek to prevent people from using or consuming a dangerous product. Despite these efforts to avoid consumer injury, recall notices do not entirely prevent these products from being sold or used.

An investigative report issued at the end of 2014 by ABC News suggests that consumers often play a recall roulette game when it comes to purchasing and using consumer goods. It was discovered that when a recall is announced, only about 20 percent of these dangerous products are taken off the market. Furthermore, even when a good recall is issued, this might result in only five percent of returned or fixed products.

What does this mean for consumers and product safety? This could mean the sale and resale of dangerous products and a greater chance that consumers will suffer injuries. Although it is illegal to resell recalled products, if consumers are unaware and seek to put their goods up for sale online or at a garage sale, these dangerous products could unknowingly be passed onto unsuspecting buyers.

What can consumers do? It is important to be aware of the health and safety issues regarding commonly used products. Moreover, consumers should take the initiative to have these goods fixed or returned in order to avoid potentially serious injuries or even death. Lastly, if a recalled product harms a consumer, there is a possibility that a products liability suit could be filed.

Depending on the situation, a products liability claim could help the injured consumer recover compensation, which could be used to cover medical bills, lost wages and other related losses and damages. In these matters, consumers should seek information about their situation and ways they can protect their rights and interests.
