Pennsylvania officials address deadly intersection concerns

While automobile collisions often happen unsuspectingly, dangerous conditions could be the cause of or partially the cause of an accident. An unsafe road or a dangerous intersection could put the lives of numerous drivers and passengers at risk. If these dangerous conditions are known and not addressed properly, state, city and local departments could be liable for the injuries, deaths and damages caused by the unsafe road conditions that led to the incident.

In a recent council meeting in Pennsylvania, claims about a deadly intersection were discussed. According to reports, the intersection of Park Avenue and Atherton Street were addressed at the State College Borough council meeting. Because two fatal accidents have occurred at this intersection in the past year, members of the community suggested that actions should be taken to reduce this risk.

The major concern regarding this intersection is the lack of time for pedestrians to cross the street. It was cited that those seeking to crossing this intersection on foot often have to dash across the street in order to completely cross the road before the lights switch. Community members believe that lengthening the light at the crosswalk could help increase the safety at the intersection.

Additionally, it was suggested that a traffic circle at the intersection could provide the community with a better solution to the deadly intersection. Taken such measures would not only increase the safety of pedestrians and drivers but also help to address traffic congestion issues.

Lastly, per request of the local police department, a camera was recently placed at the intersection to help record activity at the intersection. This could help law enforcement better understand this dangerous intersection and help them investigate fatal accidents occurring at the intersection.

Whether it is due to the negligence of a driver or the negligence of a government agency in the design of an intersection, it is important to understand the cause of a fatal crash. This not only helps determine fault and liability, but could also help family member file a cause of action after the loss of a loved one.
