New Tech Takes To The Road To Enforce Safer Driving

With drowsy and/or distracted driving continuing to be major contributors to roadway accidents each year, some tech manufacturers have turned their sights to making tools that help drivers stay safe on the road. Here are two of the new technologies that are aimed at improving safety on the road.

Textalyzer. This is a device that would be used by police to determine if someone who was involved in an accident had been texting, surfing the internet or using their phone in another way before the accident. The device is not yet available, however, and some have raised privacy concerns about its use. The device does not, however, read the content of your communications, but would simply determine if your phone had been in use before the crash.

Steer. An attempt at preventing drowsy driving, this wearable device delivers a delivers a vibration or a shock if it senses that you're falling asleep at the wheel.

Driving skills on the decline?

These new technologies focus on managing drivers' behavior. Of course there are common-sense ways to drive safer without this technology, like refraining from using your cell phone while driving, or not driving while fatigued. The persistence of distracted and drowsy driving accidents, however, suggests that these devices could be helpful.

Some are arguing that every time a new driver safety-related technology emerges, people lose more driving skills. This argument pertains more to in-car features like automatic braking and blind spot detection systems. As more new cars include these safety features, will safe driving habits go the way of the manual clutch?

Too late for prevention? Call a lawyer.

Tech devices or no tech devices, people get into car accidents. If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash, talk to a qualified lawyer who can help you secure the compensation you need to recover.
