Originally hailing from North Carolina, Thomas Harper attended college at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, from which he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science. Thomas then attended Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh, NC, where he graduated cum laude in 2010.
Thomas has a long history of service to the nation, having originally enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army Reserves in 2003. After completing the Army ROTC program, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2007. He entered active duty service after completing law school as an attorney in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps).
During his seven years of active duty service, Thomas practiced law in a variety of challenging positions. He handled numerous jury and bench trials during his time as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. Thomas also advised commanders on the rules of engagement and the law of warfare while deployed to Afghanistan. He currently serves as an attorney with the U.S. Army Reserves, where he continues to protect the rights of service members. His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals, among others.
Thomas’ wife was also an active duty JAG Corps attorney. Thomas is an avid competitive runner and enjoys staying active. He is also a big fan of Star Wars, which he has lectured about on the national stage, including at Disney’s official Star Wars convention in Orlando. He writes a regular column that teaches about legal issues through the lens of Star Wars for The Legal Geeks, an American Bar Association Top 100 legal blog and podcast.
Thomas is licensed in both in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
