Pop Warner makes changes to decrease the chances of head injuries

Hundreds of thousands of kids who play Pop Warner football will be playing by a new set of rules this season. The new rules are intended to create more safeguards against the increasing number of concussions/head injuries suffered by kid under the age of 12. I have posted a number of pieces over the last year or so revealing the incredible statistics that are being released about the severity of concussion syndrome. Finally, steps are taking place to reduce these risks through some common sense approaches.

Boy awarded $1.1 million in medical malpractice lawsuit

The family of a boy who suffered a brain injury after surgery to correct his sleep apnea has been awarded $1.1 million by a Pennsylvania jury. In the medical malpractice lawsuit, it was alleged that the boy would unfortunately suffer developmental delays that could potentially linger into adulthood. While there is no way to tell for sure just how much he will be affected in the future, right now it is believed he is about a year and a half behind his peers, developmentally speaking.

Pennsylvania truck accident kills 1, severely injures another

Clay Township, a small Pennsylvania town near West Sunbury and only 45 miles north of Pittsburgh, was the sight of a fatal accident on June 11. The truck accident occurred in the early morning hours of that Monday and involved both a car and a garbage truck. The car driver died at the scene, and his passenger was listed in critical condition at a Pittsburgh-area hospital after being thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Pennsylvania honor student killed in car accident

It is every Pennsylvania parent's nightmare when a teen needlessly dies as a result of an accident. No one wants to hear such tales, and the loss of a young, promising life is a tragedy to not only a family but also a community. Sadly, this happened on June 4 when an honor-roll high school student was struck and killed in a fatal accident near his home.

Crib tent recalled after 1 baby died and another was injured

It is always a tragedy when a child is hurt due to an accident. When the injury is caused by a defective product, a parent's frustration may be compounded. In recent years, it seems that it has been all too common for children's products to be the subject of recalls and complaints to agencies such as the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission.
