Crib tent recalled after 1 baby died and another was injured

It is always a tragedy when a child is hurt due to an accident. When the injury is caused by a defective product, a parent's frustration may be compounded. In recent years, it seems that it has been all too common for children's products to be the subject of recalls and complaints to agencies such as the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Readers in Pennsylvania will be interested to learn about another defective product safety recall of a child-related product. The recall affects a tent designed to be placed over a crib to keep a baby from climbing out. However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says that the tent has a rod that can break and become inverted. When this happens, a baby can be trapped between the tent and the rails of a crib.

There have been reports of one baby's death and another's serious brain injury caused by the crib tent defecting. Federal officials have warned parents across the country who have purchased a crib tent to stop using it immediately. Stores where the tents were purchased have allowed customers to return the item for refunds or store credit. In addition, the company responsible for the production of this defective product has since gone out of business.

When a parent purchases an item for their child, they do so assuming the product has been properly tested and approved as safe to use. Hopefully companies that parents trust to protect their children will find better ways of ensuring their products are safe for those who use them.
