More than 94,000 marble-sized toys were sold across the country and in Pennsylvania before being the subject of a recent recall. The toys, sold under names such as Water Balz, Growing Skulls and H2O Orbs, are the subject of a defective product recall after injuries have occurred. The injuries include at least one case in which an infant had to have surgery after ingesting the toy.
The toys were designed to grow up to 400 times their original size when placed in water. If ingested, they can expand in a person's stomach or intestine. This can cause discomfort, vomiting and can be life threatening, at least one report indicates. The child who reported an injury after ingesting the toy had a blocked intestine as a result of swallowing the small toy.
The marble-sized toys were sold at major retail outlets in Pennsylvania and across the nation. These include Bed Bath & Beyond, Wegmans and Hobby Lobby. Now, the company that distributes the toys has asked that all people who have purchased them discontinue their use and return them to the store where they were purchased.
If a person in our state suspects that they or someone they know may have ingested the small toy, they may wish to seek immediate medical care. After that, a detailed medical record may benefit the injured person. This information can be helpful should the person who suffered injury find that they can seek a claim under the personal injury laws of our state for their damages that occurred as a result of contact with the defective product.
