Pennsylvania parents learn of defective product dangers

When parents in Pennsylvania see products on the shelves of their local stores, they typically assume that they have been tested and are safe to use. However, some may be surprised to learn that there are little in the way of regulations and required testing for children's products in our country. This may have led to many defective product items being manufactured and sold.

Readers in Pennsylvania may be interested to know that more than 69,000 children are injured as a result of the use of defective product items each year. Many of these victims are killed as a result of using such items. Some of the most dangerous include play yards that collapse on a child, causing strangulation.

This is what happened to one 13-month-old in another state. Her parents purchased a play yard that turned out to be a defective product. As she slept in the play yard, it collapsed on her, and she died as a result of the injuries that she suffered. This led to her grieving parents efforts to change the rules for testing and product placement for child related products.

Parents in Pennsylvania work hard to ensure that the products that they use with their kids are not dangerous. However, though the government says that it issues nearly two recalls a week, parents say that they only learn of one or two each month. This discrepancy can lead to injury and death for kids. If a parent believes that their child is one that was injured or killed after using a defective product, they may benefit by gaining a full understanding of the applicable state and federal laws so that they can decide if they wish to make a products liability claim against the manufacturer or distributer.
