Defective product may affect Pennsylvania surgical patients

Hip replacement surgery is meant to improve an individual's mobility and quality of life. But what happens when a company that manufactures the prosthetics makes a defective product that ends up being used in surgery? One patient is now pursuing litigation against a prosthetics manufacturer because his prosthetic hip failed a year after his procedure. The lawsuit was filed out of state, but this defective product has the potential to affect hip replacement patients in Pennsylvania.

The man had surgery in April 2011, and his surgeon used a prosthetic hip manufactured by Stryker Orthopedics. In May of the following year, his prosthetic hip failed. This caused him to suffer from instability and serious pain. He went to the hospital, where he was told that the prosthesis was dislocated and he would need to have more surgery.

Doctors made the discovery that the prosthetic parts were mismatched due to misleading labeling. Stryker published a notice indicating the existence of this problem, but the company never informed the man's surgeon. The lawsuit alleges that Stryker did not adequately notify the public about the defective product.

The suit seeks damages of an unspecified amount for permanent disability, personal injury and the loss of quality of life. Surgical patients in Pennsylvania who find themselves in a similar situation may wish to speak to someone about their legal options. Any compensation awarded in a successful civil suit can help cover additional medical expenses resulting from the defective product, which may provide peace of mind to anyone struggling to recover physically and emotionally from such an ordeal.
