Personal injury claim filed by Pennsylvania teen

A teenage girl from Pennsylvania is suing the United Field Hockey Association in a personal injury claim. The girl asserts she was injured the second day of a national tournament held indoors at a convention center in another state. The personal injury claim comes after several plastic surgery procedures that have been necessary to repair damage received during a game.

According to a report, the girl was receiving a pass from a team mate when the ball hit a raised portion of the tile floor, causing the ball to hit the girl in the forehead. The hit was hard enough to give the girl a concussion and to give her a serious gash on her head. She had to have 21 stitches to close the wound and her suit claims the scar and disfigurement from it are permanent.

The suit claims that several injuries were sustained by other players and even umpires on the first day of tournament play. The complaints were that the floor was damaged and unsafe for play. There were grievances filed after that first day but the USFHA did not do anything to make sure the rest of tournament play was safe.

The report stated the Pennsylvania teen is asking for reparations of more than $150,000 to cover medical and legal costs and to compensate her for emotional and physical pain and suffering. The personal injury suit claims that the defendant should have inspected the property before tournament play began. This inspection would have revealed the unsafe conditions of the flooring and all repairs could have been made.
