Products liability suit over death of Pennsylvania woman

Most people take medicine to help with their ailments. No one ever expects to die from medication that claims to help them. Such was not the case of a Pennsylvania woman who allegedly died from taking the medication Pradaxa. The daughters of the woman have filed a products liability suit against the company that manufactures the medication. The suit is citing counts of products liability and negligence among several others.

The woman had been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and then prescribed Pradaxa by her doctor. Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder and can increase the danger of having a stroke. Pradaxa is an anticoagulant that has been marketed as a medication that will reduce the possibility of a stroke. The medication previously used for this condition was Warfarin, the use of which held many complications because of interactions with other drugs and certain foods. Pradaxa does not have those types of restrictions on its use.

The daughters allege that their mother died because the use of Pradaxa caused her to excessively bleed out. They say their mother would not have been taking the medication had she known that it could increase that risk with no means of reversing the anti-clotting effect. The plaintiffs feel that there are no adequate warnings from the Pradaxa manufacturers of the risks of taking the medication -- even though they are aware of the eventual effects the drug will have on its consumers. The daughters are seeking $75,000 in damages from the manufacturers.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident on the part of drug manufacturers. Cases like this help bring accountability to drug manufacturers and other large corporations. For any Pennsylvania residents who feel they are victims and have grounds for a products liability suit, they have the right to explore their options for financial reimbursement they may be due.
