Pennsylvania man suffers cardiac arrest in wrongful death claim

Everyone expects a measure of safety when choosing a place to live. Unfortunately, one Pennsylvania man found out the place where he lived was not as safe as he had believed it to be. The family of this man is filing a wrongful death suit against the company that manages the apartment complex where he had lived. The wrongful death suit comes after the man was involved in a slip-and-fall incident on the property of the complex the family feels eventually caused his death.

The family claims the man had entered the lobby of the complex one evening when he fell on a slick substance on the floor. Among other injuries, his hip was fractured and he required surgery to repair it. He had previously been diagnosed with a heart condition and the family believes the fall aggravated it enough to trigger cardiac arrest, which caused his death.

The suit claims the managers of the complex knew about the sticky material on the floor but did nothing to remove it for the safety of the residents. The family is requesting over $50,000 in damages. This compensation amount will recover some of the costs the family has spent on legal, medical and other expenses.

The wrongful death suit was originally filed in a Pennsylvania state court. Defense attorneys want the case moved to the federal court system. For those who feel they have cause to seek financial damages for a case such as this one, some research into applicable laws and procedures at the state and federal level.
