Pennsylvania man injured on someone else's property files suit

A settlement has been reached in a case where a man was severely injured on someone else’s property in Pennsylvania. The settlement amount of just over $16 million came in the wake of a lawsuit against four defendants, one of those being the general contractor of the project that employed the plaintiff. The plaintiff was on the job as a construction worker when he was injured on someone else’s property.

The man was hired to help renovate a building that was over a hundred years old. He and another worker were in the basement of the building, attempting to stabilize a stone slab when the 3,000 pound slab fell on him. His right leg was severed, his left foot was crushed and he had to lie there for 20 minutes before coworkers were able to remove the stone. He is bound to a wheelchair and has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress syndrome.

The sidewalk had been demolished before the stabilization work began. The lawsuit claimed the general contractor of the project did not use appropriate safety measures prior to the installation of a more secure foundation to ensure no harm would occur. Other than the general contractor, the engineering firm and the corporation that employed the plaintiff will be responsible for paying the settlement amount.

Those who have been injured on someone else’s property are entitled to seek financial compensation to cover a variety of expenses related to the injury. This can cover any medical expenses the injury generated to legal costs the wounded party has had to expend. Pennsylvania residents who feel they have cause to do so may want to look into the requirements set by the state to see if they have grounds for a premises liability suit.
