Dangerous product lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania court

A personal injury lawsuit has been filed in a Pennsylvania court over what the plaintiff calls a dangerous product. The suit is against both the Home Shopping Network, the entity through which the product was purchased, and Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Inc., the manufacturer of the product. She is requesting reparations of over $100,000 for injuries she says she received from using the alleged dangerous product.

The plaintiff claims that she was severely burned after using a pressure cooker she had ordered from HSN. The pressure cooker prepares food using steam in a pressurized, sealed pot and is supposed to cook food faster than a normal pot. Just before her injury, the woman had cooked her meal in the pressure cooker and had removed the lid to add some ingredients. She replaced the lid and let the pot sit longer. When she moved the pot again, the lid reportedly flew off and sprayed her with steam from her waist to her head.

When the woman bought the product, she was under a reasonable assumption that it would work as it was intended and marketed. She feels the cooker was not properly designed or inspected and that there was not sufficient forewarning of the danger that could occur with proper use. Her husband is also claiming loss of consortium in the suit.

Product manufacturers have a responsibility to consumers to ensure that their goods are safe in their intended use. When a person buys and uses a product that causes injury, the manufacturer and associated parties should be held accountable for costs related to the injury. For Pennsylvania residents who have been injured by something considered to be a dangerous product, filing a lawsuit may be a beneficial first step to recoup any financial loss suffered.
