Slip-and-fall accident spurs Pennsylvania woman to file lawsuit

A slip-and-fall accident was the motivation behind a recent lawsuit. A Pennsylvania woman has filed a suit against a grocery store after she says she was injured while shopping. She and her husband are asking for compensation of over $50,000 and her husband is claiming loss of consortium after her slip-and-fall accident.

When the plaintiff was shopping in the store, she reportedly walked on a liquid that was not specifically identified in a report of the incident. She slipped, fell down and hit her head on the floor. She was apparently diagnosed as having a concussion after the fall. She also has ongoing pain in her neck and in her back. Because of her injuries, she alleges that she cannot work to earn the salary she anticipated before the accident and is requesting help to pay for her medical bills.

The woman says the unknown liquid came from a refrigerator that was not working properly and was leaking some type of fluid. She also claims management and employees of the store knew about the leak but did nothing to ensure the unit had been properly maintained. Furthermore, she feels the floor had not been regularly checked so that accidents like hers would not occur.

When a slip-and-fall accident occurs in Pennsylvania, those who have been injured have the right to seek reparation to cover any medical costs incurred because of the injury. Personal injury laws exist to protect victims from being financially harmed because another person or entity was negligent in causing their injuries. A legal settlement or award can help ensure all associated costs of a negligent injury are covered.
