RV accidents: When road trips go wrong

Camping adventures and cross-country road trips have been the subjects of countless humorous movies, books and real-life stories, but the reality does not always match up to the ideal. While making your vehicle your home sounds like a good idea in the short-term, the unfortunate reality of recreational vehicles is that many people do not have the experience necessary to successfully maneuver these large vehicles in unfamiliar areas and often-changing traffic patterns.

If you have been injured in an RV accident, you already know too well what can happen. Recreational vehicles are much larger than what most people are accustomed to driving and are actually very similar to commercial vehicles. Blind spots are larger, and basic maneuvers are exponentially more difficult to execute.

Pull-behind campers being towed by trucks or even cars are prone to accidents where the driver loses control and the trailer jackknifes, and it's also possible for the trailer hitch to malfunction, releasing the trailer into the path of traffic. RV drivers are often also dealing with passengers talking and walking around in the RV, increasing the risk of distraction.

No matter what caused the accident, if you live or were injured at the fault of another driver operating an RV in Pennsylvania, you may have legal options for pursuing a personal injury lawsuit. Because of the size of these vehicles, injuries may be more severe, and monetary compensation can help with medical bills and other financial hardships related to the RV accident or injuries. While the first step is always to ensure you have been treated for any injuries and taken time to heal, talking with an attorney to get a full understanding of the options relevant to your particular situation should be done as soon as possible.
