Details of air bag suits remain unknown due to settlements

It is not uncommon for residents in Pennsylvania to utilize a vehicle to get to and from their destinations. In some cases, a driver relies on their vehicle on a daily basis, and if the automobile breaks due to defects, this could complicate their life. Moreover, if the defective parts cause an accident, the driver could suffer greatly, causing product liability for the manufacturer for the vehicle.

After the recent federal investigations of Takata Corporation for regarding the claims of defective airbags, it was recently reported that the general public remains in the dark about the details of the defects that led to the recall of more than 11 million U.S. vehicles.

The public stays in the dark because many plaintiffs injured by these defects are settling their claims out of court. Because these deals are being made, the public does not know the details of the exact causes or the injuries suffered by consumers.

This situation has led some to comment about the "murky" situation that has been escaping the media, Congress and even consumer groups. In these matters, the best information, such as details about the situation, is usually available through litigated cases. But since most cases are not going to trial and are being settled out of court, the details remain unknown to both the public and even the plaintiffs.

Because roughly 17 million cars worldwide are believed to contain the air bags that are being recalled, the public demands more information. As of now, it is suggested that the defects part not only causes the air bag to pop and fail to provide the protection it was designed to, it could also cause metal bits from the pieces holding the air bag in place to eject from behind the steering wheel. This could lead to serious and even fatal injuries.

If a driver or passenger is injured by a defective auto part, it is important that the victim and their loved ones understand their legal remedies. In these cases, that could mean filing a products liability claim to recover compensation for the damages and losses associated with the defect.
