2 teenagers shot by a hunter in Pennsylvania

There is a hunting area on the back side of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School, in Pennsylvania, and it was recently the site of what appears to be a tragic accident, as two teens were shot by a man with a .270 caliber rifle. Both of them survived, but they have serious injuries and were hospitalized.

It took emergency crews a bit of extra time to find the victims, as they were told initially to go to the intersection of Anthracite Avenue and Coal Street, when the correct location was closer to the intersection of Anthracite Avenue and Green Street. After getting new information, they went east by about two blocks and started looking in the woods in this location.

The two who were shot were a boy of 15 years and a girl of 14 years. The boy had been hit under his ribs, while the girl had been hit in the knee. However, it appeared that a single shot had caused both injuries as the bullet passed through.

The two were carried out of the woods, after getting on-site treatment for heavy bleeding, and airlifted to a pair of nearby hospitals: St. Luke's University Hospital and Lehigh Valley Hospital.

The man who fired the shot was apparently just trying to unload his rifle when it accidentally went off, and he had no idea the teens were there. He did have an orange vest on with an old and outdated license, but he told police he was simply sighting in his rifle, not hunting. Still, it is anticipated that charges are going to be filed by the game commission.

In situations in which a serious personal injury is suffered, people must know what rights they have to compensation, regardless of whether or not charges are filed.
