Seeking compensation for pool-related injuries

Last week, we talked about the danger of intoxicated boat operators and the fact that those injured in boat accidents caused by an intoxicated operator have options for seeking compensation for losses. While lakes and rivers do offer numerous risks for injury, they aren't alone in that distinction. Water offers excitement and an enjoyable pasttime for many, but it can also be dangerous. The pool in your backyard, your neighbors backyard or in a complex or hotel can also offer risks of injuries.

The most serious accident that can happen in a pool is probably an accidental drowning. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children between the ages of one and four are at the highest risk of an accidental drowning. Often, appropriate safety measures such as fencing and adult supervision at the pool can reduce the chance of these events. When a family experiences such a tragic loss, however, if someone was negligent in providing appropriate pool safety or security, the family might be able to seek some financial recovery for the loss.

Other common pool accidents include slips and falls and diving accidents. Diving injuries usually occur when someone is attempting to dive into water that is too shallow for the purpose. If a pool owner or manager doesn't maintain signage that tells people where it is safe to dive, they could be negligent in such an injury.

Slips and falls often occur because someone is moving too fast around the pool. They can also occur because areas are not adequately maintained, leading to too-slick surfaces or cracks in the concrete. If you experienced a pool-related injury over the summer, you might be able to seek compensation for medical expenses and other losses.
