Amusement park injuries are anything but fun

Many of the nation's amusement parks that have been closed for the winter will be reopening in coming weeks and months. These parks are designed for fun, and provide an option for a carefree day away from normal responsibilities. But negligence on the part of park staff, maintenance crews, ride designers or security detail can turn a day of fun into a long-term nightmare when visitors get injured on rides.

Visitors to amusement parks have been seriously injured and killed in various ways, although this doesn't seem to stop people from coming to the parks every day. Of course there are always visitors who don't obey park rules, and end up paying dearly for the mistake. Patrons who climb into protected areas to retrieve lost property have been killed, and people who put out their hands or try to stand up on rides have met similar fates. But sometimes patrons are also killed or hurt for no other reason than trusting that the rides they came to experience were well-maintained and safe. Brake malfunctions, loose screws, and staff failure to check safety bars and seat belts, for example, have all resulted in horrific accidents at various parks.

In a recent case in California, for example, a boy who was trying to get out of a ride had his leg broken and the skin ripped off his foot when the ride lurched forward after he believed it had come to a complete stop. The boy's parents are suing.

Going to an amusement park of course will always involve some degree of risk. But once you or a loved one suffers a real injury from an amusement park accident, don't risk settling for an inadequate settlement from the park. Call an experienced personal injury lawyer who can help you recover the maximum amount possible to pay for your recovery.
